The museum itself, with the gorgeous grounds, gardens and water features, neo-Classical buildings, and the huge variety of permanent and visiting exhibits, would be well worth an admission fee of $30-50 or more.
Parking Lot B (111th Street and La Cienega) is the cheapest airport operated lot at $8/day. This is completely legitimate with frequent free shuttles. We booked under the park and fly package. Great rooms, Daily Grill on-site, pool and fitness room and complimentary shuttle to and from the airport.
3. Re: Renting a car from LAX and dropping off at SFO Drop off fees. Currently drop-off fees are uncommon, instead the daily rate on one-way rentals is higher than the daily rate on in-city rentals. So the advice was probably to only rent at "one-way" rates for the road trip portion of your visit.
