At 10pm on Saturday, most parking meters downtown turn off until Monday morning, which means parking becomes free. That means if you can park at a metered spot around 8pm, you'd pay 2 hrs of metered parking ($4.60) and be able to leave the car till whenever you want on Sunday, instead of paying expensive garage rates (abt $40 for the Wharf).

To be frankly honest, I'm way to cheap to consider paying weekday rates when weekend rates are so much cheaper. I've been to DC a few times - once on 4th of July weekend w/ the family, and twice staying an extra night after a Thursday-ending meeting (sightseeing Thursday afternoon/evening and all day Friday).
