At 10pm on Saturday, most parking meters downtown turn off until Monday morning, which means parking becomes free. That means if you can park at a metered spot around 8pm, you'd pay 2 hrs of metered parking ($4.60) and be able to leave the car till whenever you want on Sunday, instead of paying expensive garage rates (abt $40 for the Wharf).
If you want to save lots of money, park the car on your way down from Kitchener in at the Shady Grove Metro Station, and take the train to the hotel. Other than the subway cost, parking will be free.
Answer 1 of 10: Hi guys! Planning to stay in Falls Church, VA. I will have my car, so will drive to DC and leave the car at a garage. Will pick up at the end of the day. Any idea about parking garages with a reasonable rate? How is street parking?
Answer 1 of 7: Hi friends, will be staying at the Wash Hilton (Connecticut Ave NW) for Friday thru Sunday. In order to avoid outrageous hotel parking fee, looking for free safe street parking (within range) or nearby garage parking @ reasonable rate.
Hello, we have stayed in a Capitol area hotel recently, and we also refused to pay their parking rate of $46. So we parked at the Union station ($22 for up to 24 hours) and walked to our hotel, which was easy. There are many hotels in that area, and maybe yours is there as well.
Parking garages downtown are largely empty on weekend (spooky, actually), but expensive. Also, last few times we were able to easily find streetside parking on the Mall (both times it was on Sunday, around 10am). But generally, if you stay in a hotel in DC, it's much easier (and cheaper) to take a bus or a subway.
