I'd actually look a bit south to some of the lots near the piers in the west 50's and 60's, via the best parking (link above) because that is a more "industrial" less residential area. The problem with a larger vehicle is that few, if any, garages in NYC are self park.

You also could park at MetroPark station, NJ and take the NJ Transit commuter train into NYC. It all depends on how many days you will be in NYC: 2 days, cheaper to pay the $30/day in NYC; 7 days: much cheaper to park in NJ; 4 days: maybe worth the savings, maybe not.
