Taking one early on in your visit is a good way to get the lay of the land and you can always hop off and back onto the next. Most bus stops are within walking distance of major attractions. They cost about 24-30GBP each for a 24 hour pass.
Which would have been OK, except buses stopped running at 5:00 pm, instead of the 6:00 pm (last pick-up) noted on the materials we were given. This meant we waited 45 minutes at a stop for one of the buses that (supposedly) would arrive every ten minutes. We watched buses from other hop-on, hop-off tours do just that. Big Bus never came.
In theory the hop on hop off sounds awesome. It’s not well executed. Much longer wait times than the 10-20 minutes they advertise. Poor signage for pickups with mixed messaging on their pamphlet. There are several other companies that were more consistent in their pickups which I imagine would deliver a better overall experience.
