1. Re: Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 at SFO. The fastest way is probably to take the Airtrain that circles the airport. SFO is laid out in a loop, so you can also walk if you have the the time and want to stretch your legs. Maybe 15 minutes to walk between Terminals 1 and 3.
If you plan on returning the same way and don't think you'll lose your BART tickets, you can buy discounted tickets on board the Amtrak train (in the cafe car). I believe you get $10 of rides for $8. Also, hopefully you haven't booked your tickets yet. Riding only to Richmond, rather than to Emeryville, is a couple bucks cheaper. Enjoy your trip!

It is actually about 3 miles, flat excepting a rise of about 60' in Ft Mason, and a climb of 200' at the end to the toll plaza. If you are feeling frisky, continue over the bridge (1.7 Miles) and into Sausalito (another 1+ mile). Have lunch, then take the ferry back to your start point.

Re: Getting from SFO to OAK. Bart goes from SFO to OAK (or at least to the Coliseum station where you catch AirBart bus). Look at 511.org-it has a trip planner so that you can input your time of arrival and see how long it will take. Figure on 1.5 to 2 hrs at least. The fare will be about $12 apiece.
