The museum itself, with the gorgeous grounds, gardens and water features, neo-Classical buildings, and the huge variety of permanent and visiting exhibits, would be well worth an admission fee of $30-50 or more.

There are plenty of parking lots around that area and some have specials for hotel parking in the $30 range. If you drive a few blocks from Union Square Taylor at O Farrell you will find a parking garage.
