A total of 73 postage stamps were issued in colonial and self-governing Singapore between 1948 and 1963, first "Singapore", and from 1959 "State of Singapore", with English inscriptions. In addition, a long definitive set marked simply Singapore was issued from 1962 onwards.
These stamps were used until 1948, when stamps were produced for Singapore, Penang and Malacca. The Straits Settlements was dissolved in 1946, with Singapore becoming a separate Crown colony, while Penang and Malacca joined the new Malayan Union.
The museum has a stamp shop, and is popular with stamp collectors. There are files where visitors can inspect all of the Republic of Singapore stamps issued. Also on exhibit is a German forgery of a British postage stamp printed during World War II which has a printing error which intentionally mocks King George VI .

This was my favorite museum visit in Singapore and a great value for the S$5 entrance fee. Truthfully, I went in to get out of the heat, expecting to look at a bunch of postage stamps. I was greeted by very friendly people and the museum is much more than stamps.

6. Re: Passport stamp smudges. May 28, 2024, 8:31 AM. As others replied, it depends on countries. My passport is full of stamps and inky pages due to my frequent trips but it still works. Unless the bio page is damaged or you do not have required blank pages for visa application for some countries, you still can use it, I think. Reply.
